Do you know of the story of Marco Polo who traveled to Asia from Europe and opened the Oriental countries to the Western countries for the first time? Born in Venice as a son of a merchant father in 1271, Marco Polo joined his father on a journey to China and traveled into Kublai Kan, China along the Silk Road at his age of 15. He spent 17 years in China, traveling a number of distant counties on fact-finding missions instructed by the Mongol Emperor. He may also have governed the Yangzhou City for 6 years.

Marco retuned back to Venice in 1295, after sailing from East China to Persian counties and then journeying overland through Turkey. After his return, he was imprisoned along with a writer Rustichello, who helped him to write his famous travel book, which became a great success and was crucially used for Christoper Columbus to discover America in 1492.
