| Korea is now a truly important country in the
international community and as such the people of
Korea have become increasingly interested in learning
the English language. Globalization and internationalization
has resulted in English now being regarded as the
second language in South Korea. It is very important
for Korean students to master skills in English
conversation as it provides them with more opportunities,
both in the society and the workplaces. In employment,
it is increasingly important for Koreans to have
the English proficiency. |
 |
| There are tremendous employment opportunities
related to English speaking and writing teachers'
positions available through Korea, both in Seoul
and medium and small towns across the country. Currently,
about 11,000 foreign ESL teachers are stationing
in Korea. 3,000 teachers newly joined the force
from overseas in 2002. All public and private schools
are eager to employ native speaking English teachers.
ESL teachers are needed by all level of schools
from kindergarten, |
 |
| primary, secondary and college/universities.
There are also many private language institutions
who need ESL conversational lectors. Professionals,
business people, school teachers and parents also
want to become proficient in conversational English.
There is a greater demand for "native"
English speakers than who are currently available. |
