WINTER JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN SOUTH KOREA


Marco Polo Korea is offering amazing winter job opportunities to Canadian and Australian school teachers or new university graduates this winter 2009. There are 70 winter camp jobs available at the reputable university camp in Jochiwon and Yongin in South Korea.
  • 70 winter camp jobs available at the 4 residential ESL winter camps
  • Teach ESL with fun activities to elementary students aged 9 to 14
  • Approximately 47 to 48 teaching hours per week
  • Return airfare, accommodations and meals provided
  • Salary of Won 1 million (4 weeks), W800K ( 3 weeks) and W700K ( 2 weeks)
  • Orientation and job training to all teachers for 1-2 days
  • Medical insurance, airport pickup and local transportation
  • Well established curriculums and supporting materials available

The above is provisional information as plans are not materialized yet. Preference goes to school teachers but new graduates also welcome as long as he or she is a native English speaker with a BA/BS Degree. Candidates will be selected after interview. A successful candidate will then be responsible to pay C$100 or A$100, the Marcopolo Membership Fee and must secure the C4 Visa from the Korean Consulate with assistance from Marco Polo. A Marcopolo returning teacher does not pay this fee.

Hankuk University of Foreign Studies( HUFS) and Camp Korea pay 1 million won ( C$1,000 or A$1,100) for 4 weeks, HUFS pays W800,000 ( C$800 or A$900) for 3 weeks and W600,000 ( C$600 or A$700) for 2 weeks, and HUFS and Camp Korea pay income tax on behalf of you. HUFS provides Seoul city tours to 4-week camp teachers. Camp Korea has no evening duty unlike the one of HUFS.

The above returning date is a provisional one. A teacher should make a travel plan and fix his or her own flight schedule.


Major Responsibilities

  • Perform teaching duties about 47-48 hours a week
  • Attend staff meeting every morning
  • Involved in all activities and events in afternoon and weekend
  • Attend orientation and training sessions
  • Prepare teaching materials beforehand
  • Comply with the company's policies and regulations
  • Surrender the returning ticket at the airport for safety reason and company policy
  • Reimburse all the payment in case of returning without fulfilling the duty
  • Pay a cancellation penalty for withdrawing decision after buying tickets
  • Pay $100 for recruiting service fee to Marco Polo Korea
  • A Marcopolo returning teacher does not pay this $100 fee.

Key Procedure

  • Apply with required documents
  • Respond to a telephone interview
  • Face-to- face interview with pre-selected candidates
  • Sign contract with successful candidates
  • Reconfirm successful candidates
  • Book flight and amend returning flight schedule
  • Apply for police check and order transcripts
  • Apply C4 Visa, the temporary teaching permit
  • Participate in Marco Polo reception


Employment Visa

  • The teacher should secure a C4 visa for temporary employment from the Korean Authority. It normally takes 5 business days after applying.
  • The Korean government strengthened regulation since last December. They require to submit academic transcripts from your university and police check clearance covering the vulnerable sector
  • The teacher is required to bring complete set of documents including the original or certified degree, transcripts, police check clearance covering the vulnerable sector, passport, a copy of passport, 1 passport-sized photograph, filled application and C$39 or A$45 of application fee.
  • Marco Polo will assist you with required documents such as employment agreement, business registration, corporation certification, education facility license, camp program, invitation letter and the visa application form.

* Unlike the strong requirements by the Korean Consulate in Toronto, the Korean Embassy in Australia tends to show flexibility, allowing a certified copy of degree, a certified copy of police check clearance and unsealed transcripts.

* Canadian teachers should apply for Visa in person while Australian teachers can apply by mail, submitting a self-addressed prepaid return courier bag or registered envelope so that they can return passport with Visa.

* It is strongly encouraged for you to discuss the Korean authority first before applying for your C4 Visa. Please visit www.afp.gov.au or www.vit.edu.au (Victorian Institute of Teaching) to find information on police check in Australia.

* Canadian school teachers can submit a letter from his or her school board confirming he or she is a certified school teacher to replace a new police check alternatively. Canadian teachers should bring an original degree, an original police check and sealed transcripts.
